Nana Akufo-Addo will “collapse” NDC, says – Titus-Glover

The opposition National Democratic Congress will “collapse” by the end of the first term of the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party government, the MP for Tema East has said.

The opposition National Democratic Congress will “collapse” by the end of the first term of the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party government, the MP for Tema East has said.

According to Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, who is also Deputy Minister of Transport, President Akufo-Addo has so many positive developments up his sleeve that by the time his first term is over, what the NDC did in eight years will be totally eclipsed.

Critical thinking

“The NDC’s trump card has always been infrastructural development: they are very quick to point to hospitals, schools and roads, among other things, that they have built whenever the debate is on.
“This is how they escape the question of critical thinking which produces more sophisticated social programmes like Free SHS, or NHIS,” he said in an interview.

“Well, the NDC should enjoy it while it lasts, because President Akufo-Addo is about to make nonsense of the NDC’s infrastructural development trump card. By the close of Akufo-Addo’s first term, they will see for themselves.”

The writing’s on the wall

He said the signs of impending doom for the NDC are already written on the wall, and he cited the massive infrastructural deal the Akufo-Addo administration has signed with the Chinese state-backed Sinohydro company.

Under the deal, Sinohydro Group Ltd will provide $2 billion worth of infrastructure of the NPP government’s choice in exchange for refined bauxite from Ghana.

Ghana will establish a refinery within the next three years and select its own partner to undertake the refining of the bauxite.

Massive works

Mr Titus-Glover also pointed out that the government is in the process of awarding contracts for construction of interchanges in some regions of the country, in addition to the one being built in Tamale.

He added that processes have also been triggered to build many schools, at least one new university and a host of new road networks.

“When all of these are completed, the NDC will be finished. What else can they boast about apart from the little infrastructural development they make reference to all the time?” he asked.

According to the Tema East MP, the massive infrastructural development in the works under President Akufo-Addo will expose the NDC, because many Ghanaians will begin to appreciate for the first time that, in the area of social programmes, “The NDC has no achievements at all.
“This will be the end of the NDC,” Mr Titus-Glover said. “They will stay in opposition for decades.”
