Editorial: If Prez. Akufo-Addo had acted on opposition pressure…

When COVID-19 was in its embryonic stage, opposition parties in some African states irresponsibly played politics with it.

The South African opposition party organized series of press conferences in its effortful attempts to pressurize the government to airlift all South African nationals from Wuhan.

Without wasting much time, the South African government yielded to the pressure and evacuated all their students from China, over 200 of them.

As I write, South African has reported cases of over 60 infested people. Ironically, the very opposition party that led this onslaught is berating the government for not quarantining those who were evacuated, leading to the spread of the virus in the country, with two reported deaths.

While the South African government was yielding to the pressures the opposition was mounting on it, in Ghana, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, Kwabena Mintah-Akandoh and their cohorts were organizing press conferences, labeling the Akufo-Addo administration as insentient for not evacuating Ghanaian students in China.

President Akufo-Addo, upon the advice of experts in the field, did not knuckle under their pressure and the rest is history.

Though we have about 7 reported cases, the number would have risen if the Government had paid heed to the uninformed position of the opposition NDC.

The same NDC dudes would have run helter-skelter, proclaiming irresponsibility on the part of the Akufo-Addo administration if things had gone haywire.

We have a President who knows what to do at what time. May God continue to bless His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
