President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has removed Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng from the position of the Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).
The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Kweku Asomah-Cheremeh, has been asked to replace Prof. Boateng as the IMCIM Chair for now.
The Head of Public Relations, Lands Ministry, Abraham Otabil, in a telephone conversation, confirmed to all and sundry, the appointment of his sector minister as the new chairman of the IMCIM.
The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining was formed in the wake of the anti-galamsey war declared by the Akufo-Addo led administration, leading to the confiscation of some mining equipment including over 200 or so excavators.
It is unclear why Prof Boateng had been asked to vacate the post.
