Ghana Cricket constructs new practice net at Achimota Oval

The Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) in the quest of improving the playing standard of the game in Ghana, is constructing an improved practice net at the Achimota Cricket Oval, to replace the existing one which was 2-bay.

The now ‘3-bay Practice Net’ which is sponsored by Ghana Gas, is expected to be completed in a month’s time as it started on August 21, 2020.

The New practice nets, has its concrete base lifted above ground level. Other benefits the New Nets will offer include: flood lights for night practice; grass around the concrete to prevent the balls from getting worn out; roofing the top to keep the balls within; and the use of Green nylon nets to prevent balls from bouncing back to batsmen during practice.

It will have a length of 40feet by 45feet width and 12feet height nets covering area with 6ft each pitch area. There will also be green grass covering a large area outside the Nets about 55ft.

Speaking to TalksenseSports, Emmanuel Asare, President of the GCA reveals his intention to construct another Practice net on the campus of the University of Ghana, Legon, to motivate the growing of the sport there.

“Yes, the construction of the Nets is ongoing. I was thinking about doing it 4 but we’ll do 1 at University of Ghana, so that If we can then get a proper MOU with the University, it will help us to grow the game better. Because if they have that infrastructure, it will help us a lot. We got funding from Ghana Gas and want to channel all into the construction of the Nets.”

The New 3-bay practice net is being constructed by one of the Senior national Team players, Samson Awe, who has expertise in construction, having worked with Real Estate Agencies who built apartments.

Samson is being supported by Moses Anafie, Coach and team player Obed Harvey, and Coach Rajinder Pasad Sharma.

It is obvious, that development of sports cannot be complete without the availability of Infrastructure and thus, the practice Nets construction is a great step by the Ghana Cricket Association.

Editorial: Alleged soldier brutalities of civilians in the lockdown; the case of Paul Kagame’s Leadership to Ghana

Really interesting to see how folks are aghast at the alleged soldier brutalities of civilians in the lockdown. So next time when you sit on social media and compare Paul Kagame’s style of leadership to Ghana, just remember what some Rwandese are going through under his regime. Until the stench gets closer to your doorstep, from afar, you may think it’s a perfume.

That said, #StayAtHome and don’t give yourself to any irritant to set an example of you. Stay Home and avoid adding up to an already challenged healthcare system with fewer medical practitioners, some of whom we are told came into contact with affected persons of the virus and are in quarantined.

Don’t be selfish by going out when you have no business doing so; think about the doctor, the nurse, the already stressed supporting staff of these caregivers and stay home. Remember they have families too and deserve to see them, but that is not happening cos they have to be on their feet and make sure lives are saved for families. Why can’t you stay home a

Noguchi finally ‘approves’ Ghana-made drug to fight Coronavirus

Professor Abraham Kwabena Anang, the director at the Noguchi Memorial Medical Institute has revealed that Ghana may have a drug that will help in the treatment of Coronavirus.

Speaking to a section of the media he said that a drug called COA FS which is a locally manufactured immune booster can work effectively against Coronavirus.

He said that his outfit is undertaking certain clinical investigations and research to ascertain if the product can be exported out of Ghana.

He said, “so we are in the process of putting together the clinical results before we are able to say this medicine is good and can even be exported for HIV, Covid-19 or any viral disease”

“We want to make sure that COA FS is properly tested and assessed. We actually have a process ongoing with a comprehensive stakeholder approach with the Food and Drugs Authority, Centre for Plant Medicine and others,” he added.

He recommended the drug as a good immune booster that can be effective against Coronavirus, HIV or any other viral disease.

He emphasized, “For now the medicine is registered as an immune booster and as an immune booster, we know that for Covid-19 if you have a stronger immune system then there is a better chance of surviving.

“So if it is an effective immune booster then you can also assume that it can help in the fight but of course unless you use it, you can’t tell.”

IYF to collaborate with GTF to develop Taekwondo

Country Director of the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) Rev. Young Jun Moon has called on the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) to Collaborate and develop Taekwondo in Ghana.

At a meeting on Thursday, March 12 with the GTF, the IYF presented 6 Taekwondo Practitioners who are in Ghana on a Mission (Taekwondo being one) to the GTF and discussed ways both entities can work together to develop the combat sport.

Rev. Young, at the meeting emphasised, that practicing Taekwondo is essential while stressing on Mind Education.

“We want to collaborate with you for the Mission our Volunteers have come for. Taekwondo is a good sport because it educates the mind. There is the need to spread Taekwondo here in Ghana as it works more on the mind and helps it to develop. If the mind Education is achieved, it will help Ghanaians develop.”

It’s evident that practicing Taekwondo has a lot of benefits; from Correcting Attention disorder, to Improving Motor skills, Controlling Hyperactivity, instilling Discipline and Sharpening reflexes among others.

This collaboration will strengthen the relationship between GTF and IYF after both parties signed an MOU last year March to support each other in Logistics and Training.

The IYF has targeted training from the Pre School through to the Universities with further plans of visiting the Prisons in Ghana to train inmates as the Volunteers will be in Ghana for the next 11 months.

President of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation, Frederick Lartey Otu was elated about the collaboration.

“This is a very good news to us and we’re very happy about calling on us to collaborate and develop because that’s the right thing. We’ve not been able to broaden the base because we lack resources to do so. Should this continue every year, it will help spread Taekwondo in Ghana well.”

“Last month, 4 Volunteers from the World Taekwondo Peace Corps left Ghana after spending one month in a #S2STkdCamp20 which helped us take Taekwondo to the doorsteps of many” He added.

The 6 Practitioners who expressed interest in visiting the National Team include Park Hye Kang, Shin Young Gyun, Kang Ju Hye, Jeong Min Hee, Sim Hye Rim and Kim Gyu Han all from Good News Corps.

Secretary General of the GTF, Adnan Odartey Lamptey noted how relevant it is for IYF to take such step as it will eradicated the misconception most Christians have, that Taekwondo is for Budist or pagans.

Also present at the meeting were Rev. Ato Edwin, General Secretary of IYF Ghana and Davis Nii Attuquaye Clottey, Public Relations Officer of GTF.

The Ghana Taekwondo Federation will submit a program to the International Youth Fellowship to be rolled out.

The GTF is calling on other entities for such collaboration to further develop the sport in Ghana.

Ladies In Waiting, an outreach to empower, nurture and inspire women collaborated with Gersfort Eagle Eye, a non governmental organization aimed at grooming the Ghanaian youth to reach their full potentials organized a workshop for Halifax Ladies Football Club yesterday at their camp in Nungua.

They also donated new training kits, water to sustain them on the pitch and some drinks to cool them off for relaxation.

Halifax Ladies upon receiving the items expressed their profound gratitude to them and pleaded with them to be a part of the teams as always, with support from whichever means the could, because doing women football especially in Ghana is very complex and difficult if you don’t have the zeal and the financial muscle.

The team also used the opportunity to appeal to corporate institutions to support women football because they also have the talent as the men. Officials of Women in Waiting and Gersfort Eagle Eye also promised to advocate for support for women in football and other sporting disciplines.

Breaking News: Ronaldo quarantined including teammates as Rugani tested positive for coronavirus

Juventus have announced that Italy centre-back Daniele Rugani has tested positive for coronavirus. The Serie A side said they are “activating all the isolation procedures required by law”, including for those who have come into contact with Rugani, like his teammates.

The club added that Rugani, 25, is “currently asymptomatic”. All sport in Italy is suspended until 3 April, with the country in lockdown because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Rugani has made only seven appearances for Juventus this season and was an unused substitute in his side’s last match – a 2-0 win over Inter Milan held behind closed doors on Sunday.

Inter, whose Europa League game against Getafe that was set for Thursday has been postponed, said that “all competitive activities are suspended until further notice” following Rugani’s positive test.

They added: “The club is taking steps to prepare all necessary procedures.”

Meanwhile, Rugani’s Welsh clubmate Aaron Ramsey is likely to miss his country’s friendlies this month as a result of the nationwide lockdown in Italy.

Rugani has won four Serie A titles with Juve and played for Italy seven times, last featuring for the national team in 2018.

On Sunday he posted a photograph from the dressing room as he celebrated Juve’s win over Inter with his team-mates.

On Wednesday, the Italian government announced more measures, including the closure of all shops except food stores and pharmacies.

Italy has more than 12,000 confirmed cases and a death toll of 827.

The Italian football federation said after a meeting on Tuesday that the Serie A season may not finish because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Alternative options include staging play-offs, not having a champion for 2019-20 or declaring the current standings final.

2019/ 2020 Women’s league Team Preview -🔵⚪ HALIFAX LADIES 🔵⚪

Despite an abject campaign under Coach Paa Nii which saw the team lying third from bottom in the 2017/2018 women’s league season, Halifax ladies could take pride in a ‘mission accomplished’ liked performance in the NC special competition.

It is evident that, the exit of Coach Paa Nii and appointment of Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo proved a masterstroke, as the team went on a sudden winning streak, losing just a game in the group stage of the NC Women Special Competition to earn a Quarter final berth.

The Black Queens gaffer seems to possess a magic wand with some special antics and numerous football fans who usually throng the community 4 TDC park, will attest to that total transformation.

Her returned from Egypt after participating in the CAF Instructors course and a recent coaching course in Prampram means much will be expected from her on the touch line.

Faustina Akpor,Ernestina Tetteh a, Constance Serwaa Agyemang and their likes are still around to serve portions of football delight to fans in the new season.

Halifax ladies will however be looking forward to win over few neutrals with their dour brand of football.

Last competitive season: placed sixth in the Southern Zone with 6 points -3 goals in the first round of the 2017/2018 league season.

One to watch: Constance Serwaa Agyemang, the young playmaker has another opportunity to prove that she can cut it at the highest level.
