President Akufo-Addo cuts sod for €15 million Techiman Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has cut the sod for the construction of an integrated recycling and compost plant at Techiman, in the Bono East Region, on Wednesday, 9th September 2020.

The Plant, which is being established by the Jospong Group and its partners, in collaboration with government, and which is estimated to cost some fifteen million euros (€15 million).

The construction of this plant is in line with the Akufo-Addo Government’s policy of creating an enabling environment for the private sector to partner government to bridge the infrastructure gap in sanitation.

Upon completion, the plant will receive, sort, and process two hundred tonnes of solid waste within the Techiman Municipality.

The President noted that benefits to be accrued from the project include the effective and efficient management of municipal solid waste, the production of organic compost for horticultural and agronomical purposes, reduction in the high rate of plastic pollution, and the processing of recyclable fractions of the total waste such as paper, plastic and metal for reuse.

“Equally more important will be the provision of jobs for the youth of this community and its environs, which will help improve the local economy,” he said.

As co-Chair of the Eminent Group of Advocates for the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, President Akufo-Addo noted that this intervention will help us meet the Goals on clean water and sanitation (SDG 6); good health and wellbeing (SDG 3); decent work and economic growth (SDG 8); sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11); and climate action (SDG 13).

To Jospong Group and its partners, and, indeed, to all other companies interested in venturing into this field, President Akufo-Addo stressed that “the expectation is that the establishment of such facilities, like the one to be set up here, are replicated in the other parts of the country, to facilitate the management of environmental sanitation across the country.”

He further urged all stakeholders to see to the timely completion of these projects, and to ensure that construction is carried out pursuant to required standards and specifications.

Covif19: Release to PURC to seek reductions in utility tariffs in this difficult times

The Loyalists of NPP (LON), is appealing to the PURC to negotiate with the Ghana Water company and the Electricity Company of Ghana to consider reducing Water and Electricity tariffs.

The Covid-19 pandemic has turned out to be an albatross on the necks of all nations of the world. The death count has surpassed 25,000 while infections is around 600,000 worldwide. Ghana, our beloved country, has not been spared! Even the most powerful Nations are finding it very difficult to contain this virus and it is crumbling their economies.

The only potent solution at stopping the spread of this covid-19 is to prevent personal contacts with infected people places, or items.

As a result, the president, H.E. Nana Akufo Addo, last night declared a partial lockdown of the nation by restricting movements in the currently affected areas. These are Greater Accra Metro Area, Greater Kumasi Metro Area and the contagious districts in the country.

Even before this critical decision was taken, people had already embarked on self-imposed lockdown for their personal protection. The obvious effect is that electricity and water consumption will go up. Water especially, because now there is going to be constant washing of hands, at the least instance, since that has been advised by all professionals as one of the best means of prevention.

However, the majority of the Ghanaian working masses are not in formal employment, therefore, their incomes are not guaranteed. The majority are the self-employed, small business owners, artisans, hawkers, etc. who basically feed on the incomes that they earn daily.

Already the fear and panic going around has cause their businesses to go down drastically, reducing whatever meagre incomes that they earn. Going to stay at home for this period of the lockdown will worsen their plight. Money for food, hand sanitisers, sanitary tissues, etc. will really cause headaches for them.

As a result, We, the LOYALISTS OF NPP (LON), wish to call on the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) to consider meeting the two most essential utility providers, that is, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Water Company (GWC) to consider either reducing the tariffs during this difficult situation or better still, not bill the consumers at all.

Some service providers in the communication and financial industries have begun removing charges on the services that they provide to help alleviate the repercussions of the Covid-19 on Ghanaians. And that is a great sign of social commitment.
Water and light, provided by the Ghana Water Company and Electricity Company of Ghana, respectively, are very essential if the people will stay at home to effectively achieve the desired results.
We call on the PURC, to as a matter of urgency and importance, initiate the process of dialoguing with Ghana Water Company and Electricity Company of Ghana to contribute their quota to the efforts by government at halting the spread of this CoronaVirus. The two utility providers can either reduce the tariffs or better still, offer a write-off during this period.

We of LON know that these efforts will go a long way in ensuring that people will stay at home to help stop the spread of the CoronaVirus.
We will also like to advice everyone to practice self-hygiene and follow all the guidelines from the experts and the government.
People should also stop listening to non-verified information and should not spread any fake news that may only create further fear and panic.
The Loyalist of NPP (LON), entreats all Ghanaians to stay strong, remain positive, united and keep the faith and we will definitely overcome this threat together!

Thank you

Signed

She thanked the member of parliament for being an outstanding personality and lobbying projects to be executed within the municipality and even given his share of the common funds to support the assembly in various ways.

The legislator, Hon Opare-Ansah used the opportunity to enlighten the public on key policies such as Free SHS, NABCO, planting for food and jobs, rearing for food and export, strengthening of NHIS, investing huge amounts of money in banking sector to safeguard depositors money etc of the NPP government led by Nana Akuffo Addo. He then advised the public to eschew politicisation of projects being executed by him or the assembly or the government or any other individual. Politicisation of projects will undermine development in our various areas because he as an MP has suffered a lot in the hands of various areas being politicizing his projects and hence those projects were abandoned. He stressed on it and mentioned numerous projects within the enclave which didn’t see any facelift due to politicisation.

He then thanked the MCE for her wonderful achievements within the short space of time as far as development in Suhum municipality is concerned. He stressed that if the 8years of previous MCEs has influenced development in this way, Suhum would have been one of the best municipalities but he hoped Mrs Darkwa shouldn’t relent her efforts and he as MP will still lobby more projects so far as he is the MP for Suhum. He has been really motivated by her administration.

The public asked few questions in which most were geared towards roads, the duo cleared their questions with clarity to their satisfaction and promised them that road network in Suhum will be tackled next year, Suhum will see massive roads infrastructure in the coming year. The public commend them for such insightful education on their achievements.

Bafour Narteh Gadji II, Chief of Akorabo, who was the chairman of the august occasion was really impressed with the MCE and MP’s achievements and advised that, they should not relent on their efforts to develop the municipality but should push for more developments for his people though Akorabo zone has gotten much of the national cake but still need more and also he added his voice to issue of the Suhum -Akorabo road network and several others within the zone.

The well attended Town Hall meeting saw dignitaries like Baffour Narteh Gadji II-Chief of Akorabo, Baffour Adjewinarh – Odikro of Jato, Baffour Narteh Akortia III – Abenabo Chief, Baffour Asare Ayisi – Odikro Kwashia, Nana Addo Kaata Tetriku I- Supresu Chief, Nana Nartey Oplenu – Sawa Chief, Nana Abraham Kwabena Ayi – Koransang Chief, Nana Serwaah – Ohemaa of Oboutumpan, Nana Twumwaah – Ohemaa of Baabianiha, Assembly aspirants in the zone, Suhum NPP constituency executives and the NPP party functionaries.

“Things are falling in our education system. Help rescue now” – William Boadi to Napo

Dear Education Minister,

With rapt attention, kindly take this humble advice for the benefit of our young ones and country.

I know you are really anxious for our children to do well in school. And, I want to remind you that, Teachers and Students are still waiting for the new teaching and learning materials to support the new curriculum implementation process. As at 7th week on the academic calendar, there are no textbooks, audio/visual materials relating to the new curriculum. Teachers are stranded because government has cautioned them not to use the old books. Please why? and I know the resource pack book is not for the pupils but to provide gist of the curriculum to teachers. Aren’t they the ones that needed it the most? In fact, Ghanaians are worried.

Please check this, amongst the students who will be sitting for their exams at the end of every term, there is an Artist who doesn’t need to understand Maths, an Entrepreneur who doesn’t care about History or English Literature, a Bilinguist/Translator whose Chemistry marks won’t matter and a sport person whose physical fitness must be considered more than their grades in Physics. We need holistic education system to train talents, fish out more skillful and competent students to solve national problems after graduation. Please think about it.

The Free S.H.S policy is good but we need citizens without political lens to curb the challenges. Also, do not ignore the kindergarten to Junior High school level. They need more attention.

Mr. Minister, our education system is only training sophisticated criminals to threaten our security system in the country. The subjects are too packed and unnecessary to some students. Others may just go through the education system and become a liability. And, swiftly, we need entrepreneurship education system with the needed materials provided to train skillful generation.

Besides, teachers are the pivot in our education system and they must be given the best conditions of service to train the pupils very well for future.

Sadly, publishers too are starving; for they are jobless now! Government have warned them not to sell the old books. Speed up and give them the green light to boost their businesses.

Mr. Minister, it’s not too late to provide the materials or hold on with the implementation of the new curriculum and prepare very well. Because, if it must be done, it must be done well.

Take note; Quality education is the most powerful weapon which we can use to change the world.

Be a citizen of Ghana not a party citizen. Ghana first.

Educate Ghana Summit… We educate the nation.

Editorial: An open letter to Mr John Dramani Mahama over the cancellation of the PDS deal

Dear Mr Reviewer General,

With the benefit of hindsight, one would have expected that you would employ some finesse to how you communicate your views, as pedestrian and uninformed as they may sound when important issues are on the floor.

The three years spent on the bench have failed to school you appropriately on how to go about sharing your views on issues which assume national or even international interests.

If I were under an illusion that you would alter how you do your politics which has always been populist in nature, the misty patches on my eyes have been cured.

Suffice it to say that I never expected you to heap praises on the Akufo-Addo Government over the abrogation of the PDS concession, but I never knew you would be this unpatriotic in your commentaries.

Your Facebook timeline has a story attributed to you in which you unambiguously toss the sovereignty of Ghana to the dogs just because the country is losing $190 million of the remaining money of the concessional agreement.

You describe this as a sad spectacle, a sad day, something that could have been avoided. You also describe the deal as shady. If the deal was shrouded in some dark woods, you are to blame. You brought this albatross on our necks in the first place when you welcomed the idea in 2014.

I am trying to work around this paradoxical situation you seem to be ensnared in. What’s your position really?

You don’t appear to be on the same wavelength with your party’s leadership. They hitherto, were loud with their calls for the love affair between PDS and the ECG to be brought to a jarring halt.

The clarion calls for this contract to be annulled from your party’s leadership have been ferocious. You are here singing a song that runs parallel to what your people believe in. That’s not the mark of a good leader. It would seem that your incompetence is unwilling to disengage itself from you any day.

Your knowledge on the matter is limited and this is loudly addressed in how you blindly plunged into discussing the issue with your half-baked opinion.

Mr Reviewer General, you must realise that your penchant for throwing words around cannot help you in grasping the basic concepts in a topic as complex as this one.

The disjointed and disorganized renditions from your outfit make it difficult for the good people of Ghana to get the import of what you people really want. There is a deficit of clarity in what you people are saying.

We don’t need tuition to realise that you dwell in a world filled with confusion to the brim.

If you were still Ghana’s President, you would have thrown away our sovereignty on the altar of this peanut of an amount?

The sadness in this whole issue is your unnationalistic and uncaring posturing as regards this matter.

You would have exchanged Ghana’s pride for money if you were in office. You give ample credence to the belief that your desperation is borne out of the monies you would be able to plunder if you were given another chance.

As your new title suggests, I am sure you will, in the coming days, tell us about your intention to review this botched agreement if you are voted for. Your overzealous desire to return to power is just an opportunity to further milk us dry.

Mr Reviewer, speech, I always emphasize, can be silvern at times but the golden ornaments achieved in silence cannot be underestimated. Apply quietude on some matters.

P.K.Sarpong, Whispers from the Corridors of the Thinking Place.

“Go ahead and prosecute Mahama Ayariga” – Court tells Martin Amidu

An Accra High Court has given the Special Prosecutor, Martin ABA Amidu, the permission to prosecute the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, for allegedly using public office for private gain.

According to the court, presided over by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe, Mr. Amidu was duly sworn in by the President as the Special Prosecutor and he would continueto remain at post until the Supreme Court decides otherwise.

This was contained in the judge’s ruling in which she dismissed an application by lawyers for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP challenging the capacity and qualification of Mr. Amidu as the Special Prosecutor.

Plea taken After rejecting the NDC MP’s separate applications, the case was back on track as the
plea of Mr. Ayariga and his co-accused were taken by the court and they all pleaded not guilty to their respective charges.

Mr. Ayariga was granted a self-recognizance bail of GH¢100,000 in each of the cases,
while the other six accused persons got GH¢50,000 bail each with two sureties.

The court said one of the sureties for each person must be a person resident in Accra.

The accused persons were also ordered to deposit their passports at the court’s registry.
Kendrick Akwesi Marfo, who was charged alongside Mr. Ayariga in connection with the V8 cars, was discharged since the charge against him was struck out by the court.

Mr. Amidu was not in court and was represented by one of the lawyers at the Office of the Special Prosecutor namely Michael Baafi.

Original Trial

TheNDC MP was dragged to court by Mr. Amidu together with Mr. Marfo over
allegations of fraudulently evading tax by using parliamentary privileges to
import three Toyota V8 vehicles into the country.

In another case, the NDC MP is also before the court together with six others over charges relating to the purchase of an ambulance for the Bawku Municipal Assembly.

The other suspects in the ambulance case include Hajia Hawa Ninchema, Sumaila Ewuntomah Abudu, Alex Vadze, Alhaji Abdul-Mumuni Jesewunde, Mary Stellla Adapesa and
Mumuni Yakubu Nambe.

Parliamentary Immunity

The NDC MP had tried to use parliamentary privileges (Article 118) which according to him does not allow him to be dragged to court while on parliamentary duty.

But the presiding judge made an order which in effect meant that Mr. Ayariga must make himself available before the court for trial any time the case is called.

Main Ruling

The judge in her ruling on an application filed by his lawyer to that effect indicated that Mr. Ayariga is appearing before the court as an accused person
and not as a witness hence Article 118 could not be applied.

Initial Application

In his application, Mr. Ayariga averred that the decision by Mr. Amidu to sign the charge sheets before the court made them “a nullity and of no legal effect” as according to him, the former Attorney General is not qualified to occupy the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

He also averred that three out of the five charges -fraudulent evasion of customs duties and taxes, dealing in foreign exchange without licence and transfer of foreign exchange from Ghana through an unauthorized dealer – do not fall within the powers of the Special Prosecutor and cannot be prosecuted by him.

He was also challenging the powers of Mr. Amidu to investigate and prosecute
issues concerning public procurement. He was urged the court to strike out the charge sheet for these ‘defects’.

Opposition

In an affidavit in opposition, Mr. Amidu described moves by the MP to have the case thrown out as vexatious and an abuse of the court processes aimed at
frustrating the process of the MP standing trial.

According to him, the issue of his qualification to occupy the Office of the Special Prosecutor is before the Supreme Court and the court pursuant to an application struck out his name as a party to the suit.

He said the plaintiff in that suit did not pray the court for an order restraining him from performing his duties and hence nothing stops him from going ahead.

RE: MCE Chases Chairman’s WIFE Over School Feeding

Suhum NPP and MCE would like to react to the current media reportage making the airs.
The publication which has been sighted on social media platform alleging that Suhum MCE chases Chairman’s wife over school feeding.

We see the publication as an attempt by some unscrupulous people to soil the able MCE with their evil agenda to bring the name of the MCE into disrepute and disunite the party in Suhum by infusing antipathy between the MCE and the executives.

We want to state in clear terms that the allegations are misleading, malicious, capricious, false, mischievous and prejudiced.

We will not have bothered to react if the allegations were true but because this unscrupulous people sought to mislead the public by denting the reputation of the earnest MCE.

Hon Mrs Margaret Darko Darkwa received information that, a teacher( Madam Comfort Opata) at Obomofodensua M/A primary doubled as a caterer for the school feeding program in the same school. The said Madam Comfort Opata uses her instructional hours for cooking and this violates the ethics of the teaching profession. Upon a formal complaint from the community to the office of the MCE, the municipal director of education was informed to ask the teacher to desist from such unprofessional conducts and stick to the classroom.

The Municipal Director of Education sent a letter to Madam Comfort Opata to resign cooking in the school but she didn’t heed to the advice from the education directorate as the said teacher went ahead with the same business- using instructional hours to prepare food to the disadvantage of the students.

On Thursday,12 September 2019, MCE went to the school without Armed Men as the reporter is peddling in his reportage. On the arrival of the MCE, she met the staff of the school and told them that Mad Comfort Opata is being caught in a conflict of interest therefore she should as soon as possible write a resignation letter so that a new caterer can take over. MCE was slashed with insult from Mad Comfort Opata and her children. The NPP communication officer for Suhum in the person of Augustine Odei calmed the MCE down and was led to the Odikro of Obomofodensua to report the happening that has transpired.

Our main focus is to deliver our promises in which we are on, which will make us maintain the seat of Suhum with our able MP, Hon Frederick Opare-Ansah and the Presidential seat with the ever affable Nana Akuffo Addo, putting in place good policies and creating work avenues to the teeming youth, with this aim we vehemently protest that all the allegations are false and palpable and we urge the general public to disregard such gross incompetence and disgruntled people.

We believe that, but for diabolic reasons, these disgruntled people should rather be supporting instead of vilifying and denigrating the prominent people of Suhum.

Long Live Suhum!!!
Long Live NPP!!!
Long Live MP!!!
Long Live MCE!!!

Cocobod CEO Educates Cocoa farmers in Suhum municipality

The Municipal Chief Executive for Suhum, Hon. Mrs. Margaret Darko and a delegation from COCOBOD (led by the CEO, Hon. Joseph Boahene Aidoo) met cocoa farmers in a stakeholders discussion and a livelihood training section which took place at Mile 44, Suhum.

This training is geared towards the Akufo-Addo government’s commitment to raising huge tons of cocoa beans in the coming years.

The COCOBOD CEO, Hon. Joseph Boahene Aidoo in an address outlined the various policy interventions in the cocoa sector including mass spraying exercise, pollination, pruning and many other policies which were meant to boost production. He reiterated the government commitment to invest more into cocoa farming and agribusiness for greater yields. He outlined the essence of ban of weedicides in cocoa farming as it affects the soil negatively and indirectly affect cocoa growth. Hon. Aidoo hinted the cocoa farmers on the newly procured dual purpose machines for weeding and pruning which will be available to farmers latest by November this year. He encouraged hand pollination and various cultural practices in cocoa farming to enhance greater output.
He revealed that COCOBOD is purchasing electronic scales to support farmers because after a thorough research by government it indicates that cocoa buyers have adjust their scales to a minimum for about 7kg and will be provided with tricycles to help convey their cocoa from the farm to the point of sales.
Ending his speech, he said free shs has replace cocoa scholarship to farmers but the cash will be invested in building of school blocks in communities where children commute more than 1km to school. Pollinators and spraying gangs weren’t left out, he promises them that their allowances will hit their accounts hopefully by next week, he also assured cocoa farmers of juicy plans the NPP government has for them and charged the youth to get into cocoa farming and agribusiness as it is a lucrative venture.

The MCE for Suhum, Mrs. Margaret Darko Darkwa expressed her profound gratitude to the COCOBOD CEO for making time to interact with Cocoa farmers in her jurisdiction. Hon. Margaret Darkwa further appealed to the COCOBOD CEO that most of the roads in Suhum municipality are cocoa roads which the previous government painted in their green book as being constructed which in reality wasn’t the case. She appealed to the CEO to take immediate measures to assist the Municipal Assembly with the reconstruction of Adarkwa Station through Adarkwa- Abisim – Nankese road, Tetteh Nkwanta through Abenabo No.1 and No.2 to Amanase road, Ahodwo through Aponoapono to Ateibu road, Amenhia through Kwahia – Jato to Akorabo road, Amanase linking Simatare (My Name)- Santramor No.1- Akorabo-Supresu- Obuotumpang through Nyamekrom to Koforidua road, Krobom to Asaase road, Nankese through Adidiso to Supresu road, Asarekrom through Numerse to Dagbe through Apau Wawase linking Asuboi road, Asarekrom through Afrensu Dedewa to – Gorvinakrom – Amponsahene to Teacher Mante road to free cocoa farmers from their hardships during transportation of produces.

Chairman of the occasion, Nana Odei Amoako Nifahene of Suhum was overwhelmed in delivering his speech urging farmers to take key notes of the training without politicizing it, he spoke against farmers who took fertilizers on credit bases but they refused to pay in due time, others had also cultivated the habit of crediting fertilizers from a cocoa point and when the time was due for payment they diverted the sales of their beans to other PCs. He advised farmers who took delivery of cocoa-nursery seedlings but didn’t utilize them to desist from such behaviors. He has reechoed the fact that, Suhum is one of the towns noted for large cocoa production and as a result K.A. Busia set up cocoa project in Suhum. Nana used the opportunity to plead with the CEO to consider Suhum in all decision making by the board.

The farmers expressed their gratitude to both the COCOBOD CEO and the MCE for the visit and the insights shared with them. They pleaded for scholarship opportunities for their wards.

Sierra Leone president sacks Chief Protocol Officer after attending T.B Joshua’s Church

Julius Maada Bio, the president of Sierra Leone, has terminated the appointment of his chief of protocol (SCOP), Fatmata Kargbo, after she went to the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) owned by Nigerian clergyman, TB Joshua, to testify of how God has favoured her.

Kargbo was featured on Emmanuel TV owned by TB Joshua, testifying of how God favored her with her recent appointment as an aide to the president and how she has been able to complete her new house which she abandoned for many years.

Showing photos of the luxury mansion she recently completed, Kargbo told the congregation that her story is now different.

“I want to thank God for blessing me with this job as SCOP to the president of Sierra Leone, ambassador at large and the blessings that come with it. If you look closely at this picture you will see the luxurious house God has blessed me with. I was living in a single room apartment. But my story is now different,”

Her testimony which was intended to show how good God is, sparked an outrage in Sierra Leone. President Bio was forced to terminate her appointment and ordered the country’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to invetigate her finances to ascertain the source of the wealth with which she managed to put up the structure within such a short time.

A letter sent to Kargbo by the AAC says it will be looking through her previous asset declarations in line with Sierra Leone’s anti-graft law that requires public officials to declare their assets three months into office and three months after leaving.

“The Anti-Corruption Commission has opened an official investigation into the conduct of the official and her testimony. We will also look at her source of wealth in acquiring her house and other properties. If it contradicts the anti-corruption act or we find instances of unexplained wealth, she will be charged to court and will be asked to pay a fine.” the AAC letter to her read

Year of return – a bait to Ghana’s Tourism Development – Prince Aboagye Sakyi writes

“In the year 2019, we open our arms even wider to welcome our brothers and sisters in what will become a birthright journey home for the global African family” – President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo.

The “Year of Return, Ghana 2019” is a major landmark spiritual and birth-right journey inviting the global African family, home and abroad, to mark years of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in Jamestown, Virginia. The arrival of enslaved Africans marked a sordid and sad period, when our Kith and kin were forcefully taken away from Africa into the years of deprivation, humiliation and torture.

Fast forward to this month and year, the President of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo is leading a campaign which has met local and international applause, “the Year of Return, Ghana 2019” is an idea which celebrates the cumulative resilience of all the victims of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade who were scattered and displaced through the world in North America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.
One of the main goals of the Year of Return campaign is to position Ghana as a key travel destination for African Americans and the African Diaspora.

There has been series of events planned to mark this important event which will serve as a launch pad for a consistent boost in tourism for Ghana now and in the future. The event, strategically positions the country so well that, the country has a lot to benefit from in the form of transfer of ideas, business investment and will help boost the tourism industry, which the country has been looking forward to all this while.

The Year of Return initiative by the President has so far seen many key personalities including; Kofi Kingston – a WWE champion, Danny Glover – an American actor, film Director and Political activist, Mr. Steve Harvey, A.J Johnson, Naomi Campbell, Idris Elba, Michael Jai White, Rosarie Dawson, Boris Kodjoe and Michelle Rice among many others have all come to witness our rich cultural heritage, our evergreen hospitality industry and the progress we are making as a country. The black man is capable of manning it’s own affairs, let’s tell the world what God has blessed us with, our rich natural resources and the human resource we have to propel our nation and continent to the next level.

I am optimistic that this initiative will draw the attention of many to our homeland Ghana and the African continent, we look forward to welcoming many who would love to come and explore our natural environment and see for themselves that indeed civilization started from Africa.

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Ghana Tourism Authority and the Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President must be commended for their respective roles in ensuring that this initiative yields it’s intended purpose.

It is my fervent prayer that our brothers and sisters have a safe, pleasant and wonderful journey home so they will want to come back, get involved, see the opportunities that exists in Ghana and in Africa for us to work together and build a strong, resolute and prosperous Ghana.

The Network for Assin Development express disappointment in President Akufo-Addo for neglecting the people of Assin Fosu

The Network for Assin Development wish to express their disappointment in President Akufo-Addo for neglecting the people of Assin Fosu. Recently, the president paid a visit to Assin land but failed to touch down in Assin Fosu which is the center of ASSIN .

The residents of Assin, are totally unhappy with the president about his recent neglect. Our investigation reveals that, President could not touchdown in Assin fosu as a result of the rampant chieftaincy disputes in the Assin land.

We also noted that all this transpired simply because both the Central Regional House of Chiefs and the Assin Fosu Traditional council have failed to put necessary measures in place to address the never ending political chieftaincy disputes in the area.

We the youth have noticed with keen interest that our Traditional leaders are not interested in pushing the development agenda of Assin Fosu but pursuing issues of little relevance.

ASSIN Fosu traditional council must be disbanded and reconstituted to be able to discharge their roles effectively.

The Traditional council must take drastic measures to ensure lasting peace in Assin Fosu.

We are therefore challenging government to respond to allegations of the blatant neglect of Assin Fosu by the President.

Again we call on the regional Security Council, Ghana Police service and all stakeholders to as a matter of urgency ensure peace remains paramount in Assin land.

We urge the youth to desist from any political chieftaincy disputes, and also channel their grievances through the appropriate authorities.

It is very unfortunate that the community has lost out on many developmental projects, thus; depriving residents better life and their share of the national cake.

With the deepest regret , we are sending a word of caution and admonishing to all key players in this disputes to find common grounds and smoke the peace pipe for good fortune of the community at large.
The Network for ASSIN Development intends to embark on a peaceful protest if the conditions remain the same.

He said “the lawyers would address the government this week with the hope of them doing the needful for me and my customers”, he said.

Asked what could be his beef with government he replied “hahaha! Maybe a pound of my flesh ooo. They say I am very annoying”

Last week, he was said to have won an appeal against Royal Horizon Diamond in Dubai according to his unofficial PRO, Stanley Kodia aka KOD.

He argued that the New Patriotic Party(NPP) did not have a substantial chairman in 2016 but won. The NDC can do it in 2020 because the NDC cannot enter this race with a lame chairman.

Apostle Kwabena Owusu Adjei on Tuesday 19th February, 2019 at 15:16GMT sent a message to Mr Ofosu Ampofo; Chairman I saw something yesterday. You will soon have to choose between resigning as party chairman or remain a lame chairman. Take note. Thank you. Apostle Kwabena Owusu Adjei.

But according to the man of God, Mr Ofosu Ampofo paid no heed to his advise and therefore calling on him for the last time to humbly resign as party chairman because the NDC is not ready for another lame horse/chairman theory in 2020.

NAPO sues Sammy Gyamfi for defamation, demands GHc1m

Minister of Education and MP for Manhyia South, Matthew Opoku Prempeh has sued Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi for allegedly making defamatory comments that sought to link him to one of the accused persons in the Canadian women kidnapping case.

The plaintiff is demanding from Mr. Gyamfi, a sum of one million cedis in damages.

Mr. Gyamfi is said to have stated during a press conference that there was a relationship between Dr. Opoku Prempeh popularly referred to as NAPO (Nana Poku) and Seidu Yakubu, one of the accused kidnappers.

Sammy Gyamfi

“Seidu’s association with the NPP is more than meets the eye. He is alleged to be the personal bodyguard of the Asokore Mampong MCE, Alhaji Alidu Seidu, and an errand boy for both Manhyia MP, Hon Mathew Opoku Prempeh and Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (aka Wontumi),” Mr. Gyamfi reportedly stated at the press conference.

The plaintiff in the suit, however, insisted that the statement is not “only false but malicious” as the said Seidu is not an “errand boy” for him.

Kidnapping operation

On June 4, 2019, the suspects in the kidnapping of the Canadian women were said to have rented a vehicle, a Toyota Corolla and went searching for a victim to kidnap.

While roaming the town, they came across these two Canadians who had just sat in an Uber.

They followed the Uber and accosted the victims at the hostel where they were residing.

After kidnapping the two Canadians, the suspects drove the victims to an uncompleted building in Kumasi, got in touch with their family members and decided to ask for an $800,000 ransom.

Ghana security officials subsequently arrested the suspects and rescued the kidnapped Canadian women.

Sell Woyome’s properties to pay debt to the state – Supreme Court orders

A single Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Alfred Benin, has ordered that several properties identified as belonging to the embattled businessman Alfred Woyome, be sold to off set some 51 Million Ghana Cedis judgement debt paid illegally to him by the State.

The properties are two executive buildings located at Trassaco in Accra, the office complex of Anator Holdings, a company owned by Mr. Woyome, two residential buildings at Caprice and Abelemkpe, both suburbs in Accra, as well as a mining quarry owned by the judgement debtor in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The state identified the properties owned by Mr. Woyome which are estimated at GHc 20 million that it believes could prove vital in retrieving the GH¢ 51.2 million judgement debt he received from the state unlawfully.

The now defunct UT Bank has claimed some of the properties identified by the state as theirs. It was the claim of lawyers of the defunct UT Bank that Woyome, used the said properties as collateral for loans at the bank which he failed to pay back. Ownership of the properties according to UT Bank, based on the failure to pay back the loans, transferred to the bank automatically.

The state represented by the Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, argued that there is no evidence to show that the said properties were used as collateral by Woyome to secure loans from UT Bank. The properties, the state maintained, are owned by Mr. Woyome and therefore prayed the court to declare same as true to pave way for the state to sell them.

The Apex Court was expected to deliver its judgment on the 13th of May, 2019. However, after meeting with all the parties involved in the case in chambers, enquiries by journalists revealed that judgement on the UT Bank side of the case according to the judge is ready but that of the Anator Holdings is not ready. The Presiding Judge therefore instructed that the parties should return to court today the 27th of June, 2019 for a joint decision.

In his judgement, Justice Benin said he has concluded that the claim by UT Bank that Mr. Woyome used the two buildings at Trasacco as collateral for a loan is false as they did not provide any credible evidence to substantiate their claim. On the issue of the office complex of Anator Holdings, the Court held that all evidence point to the fact that they are indeed owned by Mr Woyome and not anyone else. Subsequently, all the properties identified by the State are to be sold in satisfaction of the judgement debt owed the State.

Leaked tape saga: The voice is Ofosu-Ampofo’s – Victor Smith

Ghana’s former Ambassador to the United Kingdom (UK), Mr Victor Smith, has said the tape recording that captured the alleged voice of his party’s National Chairman, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, inciting communicators of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Jean Mensa; and the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Prof Emmanuel Asante, amidst plots of kidnappings in the country, is actually Mr Ofosu-Ampofo’s.

Mr Smith told Accra100.5FM’s Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don) on Ghana Yensom on Monday, 17 June 2019 that he has known Mr Ofosu-Ampofo for a long time to be able to recognise his voice, hence his conclusion that the voice he heard on the tape is the NDC Chairman’s.

Mr Smith also noted that he does not believe the tape was doctored as is being claimed by some members of the party.

On the said tape, the voice, said by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service to be Mr Ofosu-Ampofo’s is captured telling the party’s communicators at a meeting that: “We’re going to take her [EC boss] to the cleaners.”

“As for the EC chair, we must wage a relentless war on this EC Chair. Me, she doesn’t want to see my face,” the voice said.

The voice also gave his blessing to the party communicators to insult Most Rev Professor Emmanuel Asante.

“For the first time, I’ll endorse insulting the National Peace Council Chair,” the voice, which Mr Ofosu-Ampofo’s lawyers and the party have said is doctored is heard saying.

The alleged meeting between the chairman and members of the party was aimed at strategising ahead of the 2020 elections.

In one of the denials, the National Communication Officer of the NDC, Mr Sammy Gyamfi, asked the public to disregard the tape, describing it as “fake”.

According to Mr Gyamfi, the “doctored tape” is aimed at swaying attention from investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ latest documentary, which exposes corrupt acts of officials to fight illegal small-scale mining popularly known as ‘galamsey’.

“It is a doctored tape, it is totally fake and we will entreat the people of this country to treat it with the contempt it deserves,” Mr Gyamfi told Class 91.3FM on Wednesday, 27 February 2019.

However, Mr Smith, who is a former spokesperson for NDC founder Jerry John Rawlings: “The tape was on Ghanaweb and everywhere. I have just listened to it and I think it was his voice”.

“Whatever I heard was his voice, unless somebody can convince me that they can doctor things to make it sound like my voice; and that much I don’t know whether someone has done that before.”

When asked what makes him think it was Ofosu-Ampofo’s voice following the denial by the NDC officials, he said: “I have known him long enough.”

Editorial: Ofosu Ampofo continue to mock God with his hypocritical pious sermon – PK Sarpong

Ofosu-Ampofo continues to mock God with his hypocritically pious sermons. Read what he has said.

“My hands are clean and my heart is clean. The battle is not for me. The battle is the Lord’s and the Lord will win it for me,”~Elder Ofosu-Ampofo

I wonder which Lord Ofosu-Ampofo was referring to in this comment. Was he referring to the same God who he defiled with such a bloodthirsty mindset?

The same God he claims to be his rock was the same God who unclothed his devilish thoughts to Ghanaians.

If he were truly of the Lord’s, he would have mustered the courage to apologise for that treasonous agenda he and his party gurus nurtured for the country.

Probably, he is talking about a different deity we do not know, for his actions do not reflect the very nature of the God we all know.

Ayariga case: Court to rule on Amidu’s competence

The Accra Financial High court will today, Monday, 17 June 2019 rule on an application filed by the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga challenging the capacity of the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Martin Amidu to prosecute him on tax evasion charges.

Mr. Ayariga filed the motion after Mr. Amidu arraigned him for corruption-related cases.

The lawyers for Mr. Ayariga are arguing that Mr. Amidu was above 65 years as of the time he was nominated and approved as Special Prosecutor and, therefore, per Article 199 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, he is not qualified to hold a public office.

To this end, the lawyers for the legislator further argued that Mr. Amidu, “has no capacity in law to append his signature on the charge sheet” and, therefore, the charge sheet signed by him is defective and has no legal effect.

Mr. Amidu’s suit against Mr. Ayariga was filed a few weeks ago with five charges leveled against the lawmaker.

Mr. Amidu alleged that Mr. Ayariga abused the privileges he enjoyed as an MP by conniving with a private company to secure a loan, import three cheaper vehicles from Dubai and failed to pay duties on them under the guise that they were for official duty.

Mamobi: Nigerian arrested, almost lynched for attempting to kidnap 4-yr-old boy

A Nigerian man has been arrested and being held in the custody of the police for attempting to kidnap a four-year-old boy (name withheld) at Mamobi in Accra.

A Nigerian man has been arrested and being held in the custody of the police for attempting to kidnap a four-year-old boy (name withheld) at Mamobi in Accra.

The suspect – according to an eyewitness, Mr David Nyantakyi, whose vigilance led to the foiled kidnap attempt on Sunday, 16 June 2019 – tried luring the little boy with his mobile phone around the Mamobi Polyclinic market square.

Mr Nyantakyi told ClassFMonline.com’s Ahmed Kollene in an interview that his suspicion that the man was up to no good got aroused upon observing the suspect’s frantic efforts to lure the little boy with the mobile phone.

“I was standing by the roadside this morning”, he narrated, “When I saw the suspect trying to use a mobile phone to get the little boy’s attention. So, after observing his efforts for a while, I deduced that the boy couldn’t have been his son, so, I discretely enquired from a woman nearby within the neighbourhood whether she knew the man to be the boy’s father. She said no. I then informed her of my suspicion that the man was trying to kidnap the little boy.

“So, I raised an alarm against the man by yelling at him and calling him a ‘child thief’. In a funny turn of events, the man also started yelling back the same accusation at me, which caused the passersby, who had been confused by the suspect, to mass up around me with sticks and clubs ready to draw blood had I not frantically convinced them that the suspect’s accusation against me was rather a distraction.

“After convincing them, the mob and I started to give the suspect a chase. He darted into somebody’s room. We accosted him and pulled him out only to notice that he had changed into a different shirt, thus, denied ever being the kidnapper.

“I, however, insisted he was the one due to his unmistakable haircut and the same shorts he was still wearing. Realising that it was game over for him, he started confessing to the crime and revealed that he had three other accomplices who were waiting for him in a black car nearby to make their getaway had the kidnapping attempt been successful”, the eyewitness, who said the suspect is a Nigerian, related.

The mob pummelled the suspect after his arrest before handing him over to the Kotobabi Police Station, which has handed over the case to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service.

Mr Nyantakyi said due to the focus of the mob on executing instant justice on the suspect, they delayed in giving chase to the three other Nigerian accomplices. The three, thus, sped off in their black car.

The little boy has been reunited with his family while the suspect is receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.

Apart from this latest incident, Nigerians have been involved in four major kidnapping cases in the country since August last year. The cases include the kidnapping of three girls in Takoradi, who have still not been found; the kidnapping of an Estonian diplomat, who was later rescued by the police; the kidnapping of two Canadian women, who were recently rescued by security operatives in Kumasi; and the kidnapping and subsequent killing of a two-year-old boy at Kasoa in the Central Region.

Chaos erupted at the launch of a Shatta Movement fan club at Ngleshie Amanfrom in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region on Saturday, June 15, 2019, when two groups clashed.

The launch was being supervised Shatta Wale’s father Charles Nii Akramah Mensah but a group of people supporting Nii Kwashie Gborlor IV, Chief of Ngleshie Amanfrom.

YEN.com.gh gathers that there is an impending chieftaincy dispute between Nii Kwashie Gborlor IV and Shatta’s father, who is said to be carrying himself as the chief of the area.

It was in their bid to stop Shatta’s father from making such claims and also stop the launch that Nii Kwashie’s faction gatecrashed the event leading to a chaotic situation.

According to a report YEN.com.gh sighted on Citinnewsroom, the event turned bloody aftert the chief’s faction allegedly attacked members of Shatta’s camp claiming Wale’s father had no right to hold himself up as the chief of the area.

It took the intervention of Officials of the Ghana Police Service in the area to disperse the crowd and restore calm to the scene.

Photos from the scene show chairs and canopies for the event all mowed down because of the altercation.

Speaking to Citi News, Nii Kwashie stated that the posture of Shatta Wale’s father is inimical to the customs hence, he will use the appropriate channels to oppose his actions.

“He is claiming himself as the custodian of the area. So he is telling people that he is coming to launch the fan club, but it is a lie. We will not sit down for that to happen. As a gazetted chief, I will act according to the law so this won’t happen. I respect the law. We have given a letter with the police and we have informed the National Security.”

Shatta Wale was not present as at the time of the incident but some of his militants were seen at the launch.
