Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency, Hon George Mireku Duker, on Wednesday, 17th June, 2020, cut sod for the construction of an ultra-modern market at Benso in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency of the Western Region under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP). This follows sod cutting ceremonies of a CHPS compound, an astroturf and a six-unit classroom block the previous day in the same constituency.
The groundbreaking ceremony was witnessed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Coastal Development Authority (CODA), Lawyer Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly (TNMA), Hon Benjamin Kesse, the Paramount Queen-mother of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, Nana Abena Kumadjoa II and a crosssection of the Benso community.
More projects for Benso
Addressing leaders and residents of Benso community, the MP informed residents that government had approved the construction of the major road that links Benso to surrounding communities. He stressed that, all the completed and ongoing development in Benso and other communities in Tarkwa Nsuaem attest to the commitment of H E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to make good his promise to the people of the constituency to ensure accelerated economic and social development. He called on community members to support him and the MCE to successfully lead the development agenda of the constituency.
The Paramount Queenmother of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area expressed excitement for the projects and requested Hon Duker to liaise with CODA to have the new road extended to the royal house of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council.
CODA Credit Union
In his brief address to the community, CEO of CODA stated that the Authority is currently operating the CODA Credit Union which is designed to provide microcredit as well as small and medium scale business advisory services to petty traders, farmers, fishers and other players in the informal sector. Lawyer Jerry Ahmed Shaib described Hon Duker as an effective lobbyist whose leadership is impacting positively on the accelerated economic and social development of Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency.
The MP and CEO took turns to educate the community on the coronavirus and called on the need for all residents to adhere to all preventive protocols outlined by government, particularly the mandatory wearing of facemasks. The two leaders also distributed facemasks and hand sanitizers to traditional leaders and residents of the Benso community.
The Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme is a flagship social intervention of H E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration. Implemented by the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives (MSDI) through the three Development Authorities including CODA, the goal of IPEP is, primarily, to accelerate economic and social development of Ghana by allocating one million dollars to each constituency annually. IPEP projects are determined through a consensus building process with active involvement of CODA, MMDAs, MDAs, traditional authorities and community members.
