W/R: Plans are underway to set up funds to support unit committee members – Sekondi/Takoradi MCE reveals

The Elected Unit Committee Members across Ghana previously have been trumpeting for dividends as they engaged themselves with their Assembly Members to execute duties within electoral areas.

Meanwhile the Metropolitan Chief Executive for the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, Hon. Abdul Mumin Issah at the inaugural ceremony of
elected Unit Committee Members in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis has hinted an ongoing steps that the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has undertook to set-up a fund to support Unit Committee and Assembly Members in aid of developmental projects at the various electoral areas in Ghana.

In a welcome a address, Hon. Abdul Mumin said Unit Committee position is a voluntary work and any individual who have avail his/her to help their respective assembly member to execute duties is a true citizen.

The Sekondi-Takoradi MCE who succeeded Late Anthony K.K Sam in coronavirus pandemic period added that sanitation in the western region as well as in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis is upon the shoulders of unit committee members to involve themselves to educate community members on the need to be abreast with sanitation issues.

Hon. Mumin Issah therefore urged unit committee members to have cordial relationship with their assembly members to FasTrack developmental projects in the various electoral areas.

The inaugural ceremony for the 2019 elected Unit Committee Members in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly was held at the Sekondi Youth Center on Monday 26th November 2020.

About 180 unit committee members were elected from 36 electoral areas with 3 sub-metros including Essikado, Sekondi and Takoradi during the 2019 District Assembly Elections.
