President Akufo-Addo launches cocoa farmers’ pension scheme.

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, 1st December 2020, launched a pension scheme for the country’s 1.5 million cocoa famers.

According to President Akufo-Addo, “the Pension Scheme will enable cocoa farmers to make voluntary contributions towards their retirement, whilst COCOBOD makes a supplementary contribution on behalf of the farmers as well.”

This, he explained, “guarantees a decent retirement income for cocoa farmers for life, and ensures that they can maintain decent livelihoods after retirement.”

Launching the Pension Scheme at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi, as part of his 3-day tour of the Ashanti Region, President Akufo-Addo there millions of cocoa farmers across the country who are responsible for the production of a crop, that has, for over a century, been the mainstay of the economy of the country.

In recognition of their hard work, the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) was mandated, under Section twenty-six (26) of the COCOBOD Law, 1984 (PNDC L.81), to establish a Contributory Insurance Scheme for Cocoa Farmers within the framework of the Social Security Scheme, so that they could also enjoy a well-deserved pension, upon retirement.

Unfortunately, successive Governments, for various reasons, were unable to fulfil this, much to the disapproval of cocoa farmers who continued to make demands for the establishment of the “Cocoa Farmers Pension Scheme”.

“As candidate Akufo-Addo, in the run-up to the December 2016 elections, I made a solemn pledge to cocoa farmers that, if the Ghanaian people reposed their confidence in me, and I won the election of 2016, my government would establish the pension scheme for them not just in fulfilment of the legal requirement, but also in line with Government’s plans to improve the living standards of cocoa farmers in Ghana,” he said.

Upon his assumption of office, the President tasked the CEO of COCOBOD, Hon. Joseph Boahen Aidoo, to begin to work earnestly with the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) and other stakeholders to set up a Cocoa Farmers Pension Scheme to support cocoa farmers enjoy a decent pension.

“Through the shared determination and expertise of those I put in charge to ensure the establishment of the scheme, both the legal framework and the technical structures have been put in place for the smooth take-off of this all-important scheme,” he said.

To ensure the successful rollout of the scheme, COCOBOD is embarking on a census to collect data on farmers for the Cocoa Management System (CMS), adding that “the CMS will hold a robust database of all cocoa farmers in the country, and track their contributions. It will also facilitate the prompt payment of claims to beneficiary farmers.”

President Akufo-Addo entreated all cocoa farmers to sign on to the Cocoa Farmers Pension Scheme, in order to enjoy the full benefits of the Scheme.

Don’t be complacent. vote massively for NPP – Mrs. Akufo-Addo tells Ashanti voters

First Lady of the Republic, H.E. Mrs. Rebecca Naa Okaikor Akufo-Addo has called on NPP supporters in the Ashanti Region not to be complacent in assuming that the NPP will win in the Party’s stronghold even if they don’t come out in their numbers to vote, but rather not only come out in their numbers to vote but also encourage every citizen who has benefitted from policies implemented by the Nana Addo Administration, to also go out in their numbers to vote for the NPP.

She said the Akufo-Addo government apart from the Free SHS policy which has benefitted every Ghanaian, has also materialized the 1 District 1 Factory, 1 Village 1 Dam, Youth Employment initiative, NABCO, and several other promises made in 2016. Additionally, she said, the economic mitigation measures implemented by the government in the covid-19 era including free water and electricity has also benefitted every Ghanaian regardless of their political colour.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo said this when she toured the Ashanti Region as part of her campaign to garner votes for President Akufo-Addo and the NPP in the up-coming December 7th general elections.

Accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah, Mayor of Kumasi Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, NPP parliamentary candidate for Ejisu and Chief Executive officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), John Kuma and other senior government and Party officials, the First Lady paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, visited the AsanteHemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III, and the Ejisuhemaa Nana Yaa Asantewaa II. She later attended a durbar of Queen mothers and Market queens in the Ashanti region at Ejisu.
At the Manhyia Palace, Mrs. Akufo-Addo thanked the Otumfuor and the AsanteHemaa for their continuous prayers and support for H.E. the President and the NPP government since assuming office in 2017 and said President Akufo-Addo during the period has worked hard to fulfill all his promises to the people of Ghana.

She said the Free SHS policy which many were skeptical about has materialized only because of the political commitment and competence of the Akufo-Addo administration and asked for Otumfuor and Asantehemaa’s blessings for the NPP administration to be retained to continue their good work.

AsanteHemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III thanked the First lady for her visit to the royal palace and prayed with her for a peaceful election, the outcome of which should advance the wellbeing of the country.
Later at the durbar of Ashanti Region Queen mothers and Market Queens, Mrs. Akufo-Addo said the NPP is the only Political Party which always implements policies which go to alleviate the economic hardships of women. She said the NHIS and free maternal care under President Kufuor and the Free SHS and restoration of Nursing and Teacher Trainee allowances under the Akufo-Addo administration have brought great relief to many families.

She urged the gathering not to assume the NPP will win the elections because others will go out and vote but rather go out to every house and every corner to rally votes for the NPP on December 7th, warning that the many laudable policies which the good people of Ghana are benefitting from risk collapse in the unlikely event that another party wins the elections.

The First lady also used the occasion to introduce the NPP parliamentary candidate for Ejisu Mr. John Kuma to the gathering and asked them to vote massively for him stating that it is when the NPP wins more seats in parliament that the good work of the next Akufo-Addo administration can be expedited for the benefit of all.

“Beyond 2020, we will have Weighing for Adults on their day of birth to reduce the gone too soon. Young Adults die out of negligence of chronic diseases and this weighing which will be done together with their children will help eradicate the ‘gone too soon’. They will also queue, check their weight and also know how to prevent the stroke, prostate cancer and others”.

“We will also re-introduce the car Waiver policy for Nurses which was initiated by President Kuffour. “You know, those who completed in 2018 are being posted and it is left with the 2019 batch, who are currently doing national service. We are processing all necessary details to the Finance sector and by the end of May after all placements are done early next year, salaries will be paid. You also know we restored the allowances for your younger ones, so nothing is too hard for the Akuffo Addo government to do. So, this is why we will need you all to vote for 4 more years to do more because we’ve done better than the NDC government who canceled your allowance.”

2020 Comprehensive food Security and vulnerability assessment survey

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), in collaboration with Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), is conducting a nationwide household survey on Comprehensive Food Security and Vulnerability Assessment (CFSVA).

The World Food Programme (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) are providing funding and Technical support for the conduct of the survey. Food security is a complex phenomenon resulting from multiple causes, including food availability, food accessibility, food utilization and food stability. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture estimates that about five (5) percent of Ghanas population (1.2 million people) are food insecure nation-wide, which means any unexpected natural or man-made shock will greatly affect the pattern of their food consumption (Ghana SDG Baseline Report, June, 2018).

The first Comprehensive Food Security and Vulnerability Assessment (CFSVA) survey was conducted in Ghana in 2009. Data analysis was done at the regional level for the then 10 existing regions. In 2012, a follow up of the CFSVA survey was conducted in the Upper West, Upper East and Northern (now Savannah, Northern and North regions) regions to identify the districts that were worse off. This further investigation and analysis in the then three northern regions at the district level became necessary when it was found that they were the regions with households who were severely food insecure. It is heartwarming to inform stakeholders and the general public that, the 2020 CFSVA is a nationwide survey collecting data in all the 260 Metropolitan, Municipals and Districts in the country and therefore, district level data analysis is assured to aid the measuring of district level indicators and enable district scores in terms of food insecurity.

Training of field data collectors was held in Tamale, Sunyani, Kumasi, Ho and Winneba between 3-6 November, 2020, where nearly 900 personnel were trained. Eight Hundred and One (801) of the trained personnel have been deployed to the field for data collection commencing Monday 9th November, 2020 and expected to be completed by the first week in December, 2020. Each district has a team of data collectors made up of three (3) members. Field data collection is being done with Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI). This will facilitate data validation, data editing and data analysis. Therefore, it is expected that the results of the survey will be shared with stakeholders and the general public by the end of March, 2021.

The general objective of the 2020 CFSVA seeks to provide a framework for the implementation and monitoring of food and nutrition interventions in Ghana. The data that will be generated will provide the basis for reviving the quarterly Food and Nutrition Monitoring System – which provides quarterly food security situations by analyzing the key underlying factors of food security or insecurity that will be identified through the CFSVA.

The 2020 CFSVA, as part of its objectives will also monitor and assess the impact of the novel Corona Virus/COVID-19 pandemic on food security in Ghana by determining the food security status of the poorest segments of the population following the effects of the partial lockdowns.

Specifically, the CFSVA survey will:

  1. Identify who the food insecure and vulnerable people are in the country, where they live, how many they are, why they are food insecure/vulnerable, what can be done to save their lives and livelihoods, how the situation is likely to evolve, and the risks associated with them.
  2. Identify areas of food insecurity thereby targeting the neediest, informing preparedness and developing contingencies in addressing associated risks.
  3. Provide up to date information on Ghanas food security status, update the previous CFSVAs conducted in 2009 and 2012.
  4. Provide a baseline for the SDG 2 progress tracking to the Government and improve targeting of Food and Nutrition Security and Social Protection programmes.
  5. Provide information for planning governments response in connection with humanitarian targeting and action, especially risks related to COVID-19 and floods. The CFSVA will help to map-out areas (national and regional districts) and people who are moderately or severely food insecure in Ghana and analyse the underlying causes of food insecurity.
  6. Address the weak and unbalanced evidence used in formulating Food and Nutrition Security and Social Protection policies and programmes as well as poor geographical/location targeting.

The questions being asked in the survey are categorized into 12 broad sections
Section 1: Demographics and Education
Section 2: Migration
Section 3: Housing, facilities and assets
Section 4: Food consumption
Section 5: Household expenditure
Section 6: Coping strategies
Section 7: Agriculture and Access to markets
Section 8: Agricultural working inputs
Section 9: Income sources and expenditure
Section 10: Shocks, risks and Covid-19
Section 11: Minimum Diet Diversity (for female aged 15-49 years)
Section 12: Infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices

The success of the field data collection will largely depend on the fullest cooperation of the general public who will be responding to the questions. We therefore, request for your patience in providing the field officers the right answers that are reliable for planning and strategic interventions.
Thank you.

It will be recalled hat, at last year’s graduation ceremony, the President reiterated Government’s commitment to retool the Ghana Armed Forces, and also improve on barracks infrastructure to boost morale and operational efficiency.

Specifically, he also indicated his determination to reconstruct the Ghana Military Academy, and transform it into a world-class institution.

“A year on, I am able to state that the first phase of the reconstruction works of the Ghana Military Academy is almost complete. The renovated Officer Cadets’ Mess and the new Academy Parade Square have been completed, and are fully operational, as we can all see today. The administration block, with its offices and conference rooms, and two-storey classroom block, are all nearing completion,” the President said.

He continued, “The second phase of the project, which includes the construction of an auditorium with 800-seating capacity, an accommodation for cadets and platoon commanders, and a fence wall around the entire Military Academy, with other utility structures, will be completed by December 2021.”

In addition to the developments taking place in the Ghana Military Academy, President Akufo-Addo told the gathering that Government is also equipping and rehabilitating training facilities for the Ghana Armed Forces, to help promote effective training.

To the graduating officer cadets, President Akufo-Addo urged them to maintain a healthy relationship with the civilian population, in line with the tenets of national integration and cohesion.

“I am reminding you, today, that your commission into the Armed Forces places great responsibility on you to guard against the temptation of using the uniform to intimidate your civilian counterparts, who are your natural partners in the development of our nation, and whose taxes provide the means for your sustenance as members of the Armed Forces,” he added.

According to them, they are yet to understand why Ebi Bright who lives in a first class residential area with a gated community post that has a twenty four hour police post, could have her car burnt by someone who trespassed into her house

The NDC candidate resides in an area where the current Member of Parliament for Tema Central, Hon Kofi Brako in collaboration with the Community 6 and 10 residents association constructed a security post which has a police station which is four streets from the street Ebi Bright lives.

The residents also revealed that Ebi Bright also have CCTV cameras fixed in most laces in her house which can aid in the police investigations to accertain what actually transpired in the house

They wondered why the NDC in a rush to accuse their political opponents when the fire analysis and police investigations have to been completed.

“It’s a well orchestrated plan hatched to have her vehicles burnt in the house to win public sympathy and turnaround to use it as a bases to score political sympathy at a time when her campaign is suffering due to huge influence the NPP commands in Tema Central and it’s environs.

“Tema Central Constituency is a stronghold of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and has never come to close to the figures her opponent get in every elections she has contested in the area so why must your opponent obtain so why must you be targeted or worried about.
Let’s think beyond the rethorics,” one of her neighbours stated.

“Tema Central Constituency is a stronghold of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and has never come to close to the figures her opponent get in every elections she has contested in the area so why must your opponent obtain so why must you be targeted or worried about.

REVEALED: Ebi Bright Burnt Her Cars For Public Sympathy

Some residents of Tema Central Constituency in the Greater Accra Region have accused the Parliamentary Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress in the Tema Central Constituency, Ebi Bright for setting her own cars ablaze to win public sympathy in the upcoming December polls

It would be recalled that two cars of the NDC candidate got burnt beyond repairs last Sunday dawn whiles it rained heavily.

Fortunately, no lives and other properties were lost in the incident which is under investigation.

However, Ebi Bright has accused her political opponents of having a hand in the fire incident.

But some residents of her area have rubbished such claims and accused her of burning her own cars looking at the circumstances surrounding the whole incident.

“It’s only Akufo-Addo’s government that can fulfill pledge to pay us” – Assembly Members

The Greater Accra Association of Assembly Members believes that the pledge to pay Assembly Members a monthly salary can only be fulfilled by a Government led by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Paying a courtesy call on the President, on Tuesday, 10th November 2020, Mr. Stephen Kwasi Acquah, spokesperson for the Association, indicated that the promise to pay salaries to Assembly Members is a call in the right direction, and is welcome by all Members.

“However, in the 2012 and 2016 manifestoes of John Mahama and his NDC, the candidate who is today telling us he will pay us if he wins the 2020 election, the pledge to pay Assembly Members was made in those manifestoes,” the spokesperson said.

He continued, “He (John Mahama) reneged on the pledge he made to pay us when we voted for him in 2012, and that is why we did not vote for him again in 2016, even though he had repeated that pledge.”

Mr. Stephen Kwasi Acquah, on behalf of the Greater Accra Association, stated that “if there’s someone who we believe can pay Assembly Members on a monthly basis, then it has to be Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”

Outlining the policies implemented by the Akufo-Addo Government from 2017 to date, the spokesperson of the Association indicated that the Free SHS, 1-District-1-Factory, the Nation Builders’ Corps, and the programme for Planting for Food and Jobs have proven to be extremely beneficial for them and the constituents they represented.

“Prior to the inception of Free SHS, we would always wake up to knocks on our doors by parents who could not afford to take their wards to school. The implementation of Free SHS has lifted the burden of us. Because of NABCO, no one harasses us for jobs anymore,” he added.

Thanking the President for making time to meet with them, Stephen Kwasi Acquah stressed that “we believe that if we support you, and ensure that you get four more years, our circumstances, as Assembly Members, will be better off under your Government.”

On his part, President Akufo-Addo told the Members of the Association that “I like very much the commitment that has been made” towards ensuring that there would be no return to power of the NDC.

“The atmosphere in the country is good for us. The Ghanaian people are very happy with the work that has been done for them over the course of my first term in office, so help me take the message to every nook and cranny of the country. We cannot afford any complacency. The election is not won until the last vote has been counted, and we have to make sure that everyone who has registered comes out to vote,” President Akufo-Addo added.

NPP parliamentarians are your best bet for development – First Lady to Ada and Sege residents

First lady of the Republic, Mrs. Rebecca Naa Okaikor Akufo-Addo has called on residents of the Ada and Sege constituencies in the Greater Accra Region to vote massively for the NPP in both the presidential and parliamentary elections, to witness unprecedented development.
She said voting religiously for a particular political party without witnessing a relative development is indicative of a Party which is complacent with the people’s welfare.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo made the remarks when she toured the Ada and Sege Constituencies, as part of her tour of the Greater Accra Region to canvass for votes for President Akufo-Addo and the NPP in the up-coming Presidential and Parliamentary elections, on December 7th.
At Ada, the First Lady attended a durbar of chiefs and party faithfuls held in her honour at Torgbloku where she urged the residents to vote for a political party with a track record of implementing policies which address their needs.

She said the NPP has the enviable track record of competently implementing social intervention policies which address the core concerns of the people, explaining that good health and education are core ingredients for human development and the NPP has the record of implementing the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) under President Kufuor and the Free SHS under President Akufo-Addo “This is what should inform you in deciding on who to vote for on December 7th, she said.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo introduced the NPP parliamentary candidate for Ada Madam Sarah Pobee who is also DCE for Ada East to the Chiefs and people, and appealed for their support in votes so she represents them in the next parliament.

The First Lady later commissioned the fully furnished, equipped and staffed Torgbloku CHPS Compound and donated items including beds, isolation gowns, latex surgical gloves, blankets, wheel chairs and some detergents to the Ada East District Hospital at Faithkpope.

At Sege, Mrs. Akufo-Addo met with fishmongers and womenfolk at the Goi School Park to interact with them and ascertain how government can facilitate the growth of their businesses. She also inspected on-going works on Phase 2 of the Sege market project and urged them to vote for President Akufo-Addo and the NPP parliamentary candidate for Sege, Madam Eunice Lasi to ensure completion of all on-going projects as well as execution of new ones.

She said the government of President Akufo-Addo is on the path of changing the country and with an NPP representative in parliament, the people of Sege will benefit immensely from this transformation.

“We have completed constructing an ambulance bay, the Astech school block, phase 1 of the Sege Market and already working on phase 2 which will come with a nursery for your children”, Mrs. Akufo-Addo said to a thunderous applause by the fishmongers and traders.

The First lady said beyond voting for a woman who will be more sensitive to their social and economic woes and so will advocate to pass laws in that direction, voting for an NPP parliamentarian will also mean voting for someone who shares the development aspirations of President Akufo-Addo and is willing and able to join him work to make that vision a reality.

She emphasized that though the Akufo-Addo led NPP government will not be discriminatory in extending development projects to all constituencies in the country, it is trite knowledge that voting for a parliamentary candidate who is a member of the governing Party, especially when that Party is the NPP, always inures to the benefit of the people.

The NPP Parliamentary candidate for Sege, Madam Eunice Lasi said the Free SHS policy has brought great relief to the people of Sege and has also caused a significant increase in enrolment of girls in school as the challenge of selecting one among many in a family to go to school, which often favoured the males, has ended.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo promised to address some needs raised by the traders and townsfolk including road construction, expeditious completion of phase 2 of the Sege market and its auxiliary facilities, as well as the provision of soft loans to expand their businesses.

The First Lady was accompanied on her tour by the CEO of Coastal Development Authority, Mr. Jerry Shaibu Ahmed, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Divine Otoo Agorhom and other government and party officials.

“The Incompetent John Mahama is a pathological liar” – Suhum NPP communications Director

Honesty is of God and Dishonesty of the devil; the devil was a liar from the beginning…Joseph B. Wirthlin

Friday 6th November 2020, the indecisive and incompetent John Mahama was in the Suhum Constituency once again.

In 2016, he visited the people of Suhum at midnight and exactly so did he repeat in 2020.

This affirms what the Bible says; and that is the thief only appears in the evening.

I’m therefore by this communique correcting the gross lies he spewed to the good people of Suhum.

John Mahama said roads within the Constituency should be well maintained after it has been tarred and the simple question I’ve for him is, which of the roads in Suhum did he maintain, for instance Amanhyia to Akorabo to Kukua where his Chief of Staff, Julius Debra hailed from which was tarred by NPP 1 did he even for once think of maintaining it?

It’s NPP 1 who tarred that road and the NDC left it without patching it with a teaspoonful of coal, NPP assumed power in 2017 and now the Amanhyia -Akorabo -Kukua road is being tarred again, common maintenance NDC lacks it.

The corrupt Mahama again said they brought asphalt to Suhum inner roads. They should show us the roads they asphalted or he thinks we have short memories.

He instructed his appointee to paint our roads with NDC logo, is that the asphalt for Suhum?. Your lies this year to Suhum constituency has been exposed.

Suhum constituents have seen major developments under the NPP led Nana Addo administration than the abysmal performance during your tenure.

Suhum electorates should reject NDC because they didn’t treat us well, John Mahama told us in 2016 that he’s not a magician to create jobs for our teeming youth, today the magician NPP has created over 2million jobs which Suhum has gotten its part.

Let me use the opportunity to list some employments created under the NPP administration from 2017.

372 have been employed under NABCO, 35 in Youth in afforestation ,332 under Youth Employment agency, 110 under cocoa pollination, 16 under the security services, teachers, nurses and others.

The voter community will attest that when it comes to developmental projects in Suhum, it only happens under the NPP not NDC as corrupt Mahama said to Suhum constituents, we are calling him and his cohorts for a debate on sectorial development in Suhum, where we will expose them more.

John Mahama seems not to amaze me when he insults the people of Suhum that when you take a sheep and cloth it with NPP colours, people of Suhum will vote for it; this statement is moronic and inane which shouldn’t have come from the former President.

Thanks to Mahama that he said in this year elections lies won’t wash, the election is about truth.

When you compare NPP to NDC in governance, it’s like comparing oranges to lime. NPP has performed better than NDC in all sectors.

Suhum our lives are good and better under NPP than NDC.

Under the NDC, dumsor killed people and destroyed our jobs, the rate of unemployed graduates was very high, bad roads, poor infrastructure, high utility tariffs etc.

This is the mess NDC created and left which the NPP led by the competent Akuffo Addo has corrected and still giving hope to the people of Suhum and Ghana as a whole.

I was sad hearing from John Mahama that the covid 19 relief funds for our market women and men and business communities to boost their business in this abnormal time under the pandemic was there before they left office, oh my God, what a liar.

Will leave this for the constituents to judge it themselves.

With his words being exposed clearly shows that the NDC has nothing good for Suhum and Ghana, we must reject NDC come December 7 because their second coming will be disastrous.

“Change your parliamentarian for Development” – First Lady tells residents of Ningo Prampram

First Lady of the Republic, H.E. Mrs. Rebecca Naa Okaikor Akufo-Addo has urged residents of Ningo Prampram to vote for a parliamentarian from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to catalyse development projects in the constituency, stating that even though they have been voting for a parliamentarian from the NDC for the past twenty-eight (28) years, they cannot boast of equivalent development in their area.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo said this when she toured and interacted with residents of Ningo Prampram in the Greater Accra Region to canvass votes for President Akufo-Addo and the NPP in the up-coming December 7th general elections.

As part of het tour, the First Lady attended a rally at Dawhenya and Ahwiam all in the Ningo Prampram constituency where she met party faithfuls and introduced the NPP Parliamentary candidate for Ningo Prampram Alexander Martey to the People.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo told the gathering that though the NPP has never won the Ningo parliamentary seat since the inception of the fourth republic, significant projects executed in the constituency, happened under NPP governments.

She said under the government of President Kufuor, the constituency was provided with a police station and police quarters with water supply extended from Sege to Prampram. Under the Akufo-Addo led NPP administration, Mrs. Akufo-Addo said Ningo Prampram has benefitted from the 1 District 1 Factory (1D1F) initiative which has seen three factories in the constituency, the construction of the largest greenhouse in west Africa a new market, extended electricity and construction of storm drains.

“All these”, she said “has come to Ningo Prampram only when the NPP is in government and even though we have no NPP MP to bring your voice closer to government” and asked the people to imagine the rate of development if they had an NPP MP under an NPP government to advance their concerns.

Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North Hon. Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie who accompanied the First Lady on her tour told the residents to consider the many social intervention policies that have been implemented under NPP governments such as the NHIS under President Kufuor, and Free SHS, 1D1F and the recent reduction and cancellation of electricity and water tariffs respectively under President Akufo-Addo which they have benefitted from, and vote accordingly. The First lady also paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Dawa and his elders at his palace and thanked them for all their prayers and support for the Akufo-Addo government and pleaded with them to lend their support as the NPP seeks another term in office to do more.

The Chief of Dawa,Nene Tettehwayo Duamor XI welcomed Mrs. Akufo-Addo to the palace and told her he is very happy with the administration of President Akufo-Addo.

He said even though the people of Ningo Prampram including Dawa have never elected an NPP parliamentarian before, there is no doubt that they have benefitted immensely from policies implemented by the government.

He said the Free SHS is a life saver as it had come to address a critical challenge in the constituency and is sure to break the vicious cycle of poverty.

Nene Tettehwayo Duamor Xl assured the First Lady of his people’s unflinching support for the Akufo-Addo led NPP government and their determination to ensure that the NPP parliamentary candidate, Alexander Martey represents them in the next parliament.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo rounded up her tour with a durbar held in her honour at lower Prampram which was graced by the Acting President of Ningo Traditional council and Chief of Ningo Nene Wakah Atiapa III and other traditional leaders.

In his speech to welcome Mrs. Akufo-Addo, Nene Wakah Atiapa III said the time has come for the people of Ningo-Prampram to change their parliamentarian from NDC to NPP.

He said the continuous selection of NDC members to parliament has slowed down development in the constituency due to the lack of urgency on the part of the MP, to lobby development projects to the constituency and said the people of Ningo Prampram will vote massively for the NPP’s Alex Martey to send a clear signal to politicians that they cannot be taken for granted.

The First Lady promised to escalate their request for fishing landing sites at Ahwiam and for the constituency to be divided into two, because of its vastness, to the relevant authorities.

She also reminded them of the Covid-19 threat and advised them to continue adhering to the social distance protocols and wear their masks.

The First Lady was accompanied on her tour by NPP Parliamentary candidate for Ningo Prampram Alexander Doku, DCE for Ningo Prampram Jonathan Teye Doku, NPP Constituency Chairman for Ningo Prampram Michael Tetteh Eku and other government and Party officials.

NDC Chairman defects to NPP, joins First Lady’s’S Campaign Team to vote No. 1

Former NDC Chairman of the Awutu Senya West Constituency in the Central Region Hon. Simon Duodu says it will be hypocritical on his part not to support President Akufo-Addo’s bid for another term in office as several of his family members and relatives of fellow NDC members have benefitted from a number of policies implemented by the NPP administration.

Hon. Simon Duodu made the statement when he joined the First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo on her tour of parts of the Central region to canvass votes for President Akufo-Addo and the NPP in the up-coming December 7th elections.

“My nephews and nieces are benefitting from President Akufo-Addo’s Free SHS and the nurses are finally being employed after so many years at home; our sons and daughters who graduated from University and were sitting at home are benefiting from NABCO, there is now confidence that our NHIS cards will work when we go to the hospitals and dumsor is no more. Why should I not support President Akufo-Addo for another term” he asked.

The NDC Chairman also commended the NPP MP for Awutu Senya West and Deputy Minister for Communications, Hon. Nenyi George Kojo Andah for the many development projects he has facilitated in the constituency since becoming their representative in Parliament.

He said among other things, Hon. George Andah has facilitated the up-grading of the constituency’s health centre to a Polyclinic with a resident Doctor and Doctor’s quarters, lobbied for a significant increase of beneficiaries of the school feeding programme from six (6) to fifty-six (56) schools, refurbished and equipped a library and Music studio for the community, constructed a dormitory for the Senya SHS, paving the Bawjiase Market and constructing a Landing Wharf.

The NDC Chairman therefore called on his fellow NDC members who have benefitted from the NPP’s many social intervention policies not shy away from reality but rather rally support and vote massively for President Akufo-Addo and the NPP parliamentary candidates to consolidate their achievements.

As part of her tour, the First Lady paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Queen of Awutu at her Bawjiase palace where she interacted with other Queen mothers and widows in the community.
She also paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Budumburam, Nana Kojo Essel and his elders, visited the Budumburam and the Nyanyanor Kakraba Markets to interact with traders and later commissioned the Naase Okaikor (I) Community Library and Music Studio which was refurbished, and equipped by Hon. George Andah.

Sammy Gyamfi thrown out of UTV; his show NOKW3R3 MMR3 suspended

United Television (UTV) a subsidiary of Despite Media has suspended a political program dubbed ‘NOKW3R3 MMR3’ hosted by the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi.
Management of the media house in a letter sighted by MyNewsGh.com states that the program is courting several legal suits for the station which has informed its decision.

It reads in part “The Management of United Television (UTV), regrettably seek to inform you of our decision to suspend the programs mentioned above, which currently airs on our network on Saturdays at 7 pm and Mondays at 9pm respectively. This unfortunate decision has been taken due to the numerous allegations and legal actions the station has been faced with and subsequent settlements it has entered into which emanated from the airing of the programs.

UTV’s willingness to allow your political party to purchase airtime and host your own programs on our channel was as a mutt of the restrictions imposed by the President due to COVID-19 pandemic, which does not allow mass gatherings and rallies. Knowing very well that as we are at the peak of an election year, the programs would offer both party’s the opportunity to reach a larger audience. Thus the aim of the programs as agreed was to allow your outfit to disseminate your campaign message and details of your manifesto to the general public in order for Ghanaians to make informed decisions during the 2020 Elections. The program took a different turn when same was aired. To protect our brand, avoid legal suits, retraction and apologies management has decided to suspend the program until further notice. We welcome any opportunity to discuss further, how our network can be made available to your outfit to educate the people of Ghana on your party’s policies and manifesto ahead of the December 7 elections which will not seek to place the station at a, legal risk and maintain our station’s ( UTV) unbiasedness in Ghanaian politics and reportage in general.

“Tema to get new sewer network, solid waste and water treatment plant” – President Akufo-Addo

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has cut the sod for the commencement of the construction of a sewer network and waste water treatment plant, and a solid waste treatment facility, at Tema.

According to President Akufo-Addo, Tema is the foremost, well-planned community in Ghana, with a central sewerage network, pumping stations, and a treatment facility, which were constructed and commissioned in 1963, and, consequently, rehabilitated in 1994.

The facility, the President noted, has been shut down because almost all the sewer lines have become obsolete and overaged, thereby creating environmental pollution and occasioning serious health hazards for residents.

Indeed, the initial design capacity of the sewer plant was to treat twenty thousand (20,000) cubic metres of waste water per day for a total population of fourteen thousand, nine hundred and thirty-seven (14,937). The current population of Tema, according to the Ghana Statistical Service, is three hundred and sixty thousand, eight hundred and twenty-eight (360,828).

“The sewer system can, therefore, not cope with the volumes generated as a result of increased population,” he said.

The President continued, “It is, thus, for this reason that Government deemed it prudent to facilitate the construction of an Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant and a Waste Water Treatment Plant to address the environmental sanitation challenges confronting the good people of Tema.”

He explained that the facility will be a modern waste water treatment plant with a combined system that will treat both waste water from the network and septage from cesspool trucks.

“The design capacity is 44,000 cubic metres per day for wastewater from the sewer network, and 1,000 cubic metres per day of septage from cesspool trucks, for areas that are not on the network. The entire waste water treatment plant will comprise the construction of a new treatment plant, rehabilitation/retrofitting of the pumping stations, and construction of a new reticulation system (sewer network)”, President Akufo-Addo added.

Additionally, a four hundred (400) metric ton state-of-the-art Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant will also be constructed at Ashaiman, and it is expected to receive, sort and process some four hundred (400) tons of municipal solid waste per day, to provide a sustainable solution to the solid waste disposal problem in Ashaiman and its environs.

Once completed, the plants will provide an opportunity to have effective and efficient management of municipal solid and liquid waste in a more environmentally-friendly and sustainable manner.

The production of organic compost for horticultural and agronomical purposes will be an added advantage to boost agricultural production and the programme for Planting for Foods and Jobs.

“Processing of the recyclable fractions of the waste, i.e. paper, plastic and metal, for reuse as input materials for recycling will, in the medium to long term, improve sanitation in the area. Furthermore, the Integrated Composting and Recycling Plant and the Waste Water Plant will create hundreds of direct and indirect employment opportunities,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo told the gathering that government has awarded a contract for the decommissioning and re-engineering of the Kpone (Tema) and Oti (Kumasi) landfill sites, to receive the growing solid waste generated within the Greater Accra Metropolitan and Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Areas respectively, so as to restore the sanctity of the environment.

He, thus, urged all key stakeholders, particularly the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), to collaborate with the operators of the facility.

Editorial: An Open Letter to the Chief of Kpone

Dear Nii Tetteh Otu,

Greetings from the land of my forebears.

I’m completely scandalised and dumbfounded after watching excerpts of a video footage where you exhibited a philistine behaviour towards president Akufo-Addo at a durbar organized at Kpone earlier today.

The absurdity of the reasons for your cloddish behavior today amazes even the devil and his agents. How could you have visited the sins of John Mahama on innocent Akufo-Addo?

Look, it is not for fun that traditional rulers are revered in the Ghanaian society. Chiefs are considered to exude wisdom, intellect, tactfulness and maturity, therefore any chief who lowers the bar must be called out.

It is shocking to see no less a person than the Chief of Kpone throw these basic qualities to the marines, to the extent of screaming in the open that he is not a stooge to witness sod-cutting ceremonies. This is unheard of!

Your Majesty, since you’ve decided to take off your traditional attire and veer into active partisan politics, some of us have no choice than to walk side-by-side with you on your new found crave.

Nii, respectfully, it is important to remind you that nobody put a gun on your head to attend today’s durbar. You were clearly aware of the program outline before honoring the invitation so your argument is nauseating to say the least, respectfully.

Your blatant obsession for president Akufo-Addo’s sterling performance is what has made you jittery but like it’s said in our local palace, “when ringworm defies shyness to surface on your nose, you don’t hesitate to put plaster on.” Let those who have ears listen!

This unholy attempt to cause disaffection for president Akufo-Addo won’t wash! Just as Nii Ayi Bonte (Gbese Mantse) saw his smoothness level after castigating then candidate Akufo-Addo in the build up to the 2016 general elections, so shall you witness your biggest humiliation come December 7, 2020.

President Akufo-Addo’s win in the upcoming general elections is divine. “Who Jah bless, no man curse.”

“I have been honest and truthful to Ghanaians” – President Akufo-Addo

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has appealed to the Ghanaian electorate to repose their confidence in him, once again, and vote massively for him in the December 2020 elections.

Addressing the congregation of the Resurrection Power New Generation Church, at Kasoa, on Sunday, 25th October 2020, at the commencement of his 4-day tour of the Greater Accra Region, President Akufo-Addo stated that “all that I promised to do, in your own presence and in the presence of God, you can all attest to it that I have done a lot of them.”

The President continued, “You have all seen that I am an honest and truthful person. I did not come to deceive anybody in Ghana. I told Ghanaians the truth, today I am telling you the same truth, and it is upon that that I am asking you to help me so that ‘Four More for Nana’ will become a reality.”

Four more years for him, he added, “should also apply to the parliamentary candidates going to Parliament so that they will win.”

Explaining the purpose of his visit, the President noted that he has so far visited all the regions of the country, but Greater Accra, and deemed it important to begin his tour of Greater Accra with a visit to the Church he knows very well.

“Four years ago, I came here to implore Rev. Anthony Kwadwo Boakye to pray to God Almighty, on my behalf, for victory in the 2016 elections. He prayed for me, and God listened to his prayers and I emerged victorious. Afterwards, I came here to show my appreciation to him and the church for the good thing they did for me,” he said, to a rapturous response from the congregation.

The President told the gathering at the Church that “I am here today, once again, that 7th December will soon be here. The country is going to elect someone to lead the nation in the next four years. I am pleading with God to, like He helped me in 2016, to help me again in this 2020 election”.

President Akufo-Addo reiterated to the gathering that “what we have achieved, in the areas of education, health, employment, agriculture and all the others represent a solid foundation we have laid in Ghana for growth and development in the country. I am, therefore, pleading with you that we should move forward and not backwards so that in unity we can move Ghana forward.”

Weija Model SHS
President Akufo-Addo also inspected ongoing work on the construction of the Weija Model Senior High School, a school whose sod he cut in October 2019.

The Weija SHS is one of the new senior high schools, comprises the construction of seven (7) new Senior High Schools and the upgrading of two (2) existing schools into model schools, being established by the Akufo-Addo administration.

The seven new schools are located at Kwadaso, Dabaa, Awaso, Abomosu, Akrodie, Weija and Kpasenkpe. Seven (7) out of the nine (9) schools are proposed science focused schools, with the other two being the first ever Creative Arts School, Kwadaso, in Kumasi, and a Senior High Technical School at Dabaa, named after former President J. A. Kufour.

It will be recalled that contracts for the construction of these schools were awarded in October 2019, and the sites were handed over to the contractors by the consultants a month later.

The Weija Model Senior High School is fitted with the full complement of amenities such as playing fields, administrative buildings, libraries, and dormitories. Additionally, the V-Block in the school has a total of 24 classrooms, as opposed to 12 classrooms in the E-Blocks constructed by the former administration.

Chairman of Muus Timber Market, Mr. Kofi Asante, on behalf of the Timber Merchants expressed their elation at the First Lady’s visit and requested her to extend their gratitude to H.E. the President for his assistance following the fire disaster that occurred at the market in December, 2015 as well as the regular de-silting of drains which has significantly ebbed flooding in the area.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo assured the traders their concerns will be referred to the relevant authorities. The First Lady’s next stop was the Pokuase Market where she met and interacted with the traders.

At a grand durbar held in her honour at the Ofankor MA School Park, the First Lady thanked the traditional leaders of Trobu for supporting the administration of President Akufo-Addo in diverse ways, in his service to the country.

She said though the Akufo-Addo led administration has achieved so much in less than four years it was imperative to vote to retain them in office in order not to erode the gains attained so far, but rather consolidate them and assured them of significant enhancement in their social status when they give the Akufo-Addo led government, one more term to do more.

NPP MP for Trobu, Hon. Moses Anim on behalf of his constituents, thanked the First lady for honouring them with her visit,
He said the NPP government has undertaken several development projects in the constituency in the area of road construction and asphalting, construction of schools, modern toilet facilities and installation of street lights among others, and assured his constituents of the NPP’s readiness to continue with their good works to bring economic and social development to the people.
